Lancashire Evening Post

Commercial property was the fashionable sector for investors in 2005 and 2006, but propects turned dramatically last year as values crashed from the peak of mid-2007. Some funds have stopped investors withdrawing money for up to a year, and Tony Ahearne at online fund performance data service Moneyspider.com thinks the news could get worse from here.

Says Mr Ahearne: 'A number of funds are also levying heavy penalties for early withdrawals. Investors unwilling to take a very long-term view of this sector to find out from their manager what the earliest possible penalty-free withdrawal date is, and to research alternative investment opportunities.'
